Nomination of our first historic district to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, and its expansion in 2004, spurred interest in preserving Hyattsville's architectural heritage, and fomented a rebirth for many of the buildings that you may see on our Web site. What may not be evident, however, is the community sense and civic pride that the historic district has engendered in the whole City. HPA proudly celebrates 2008 with a 186-family membership and its 29th annual Historic Hyattsville House Tour in May. HPA received special recognition from Hyattsville's Mayor and City Council during May's National Historic Preservation Week 2007. Regular meetings and newsletters highlight topics of home design and repair, community issues, gardening, historic preservation, and the economic and intangible benefits of inclusion in a National Register historic district. For meeting announcements and important updates, join the preservation group hyattspreservation at yahoogroups.com. New members and guests are always welcome! Enjoy our Web site.
