The Hyattsville Preservation Association, Inc. (HPA) was incorporated in 1982 and was granted tax exempt status under IRS code section 501(c)(3) to facilitate "educational and charitable projects pertaining to the discovery and memorialization of the history and architecture of the City of Hyattsville, Maryland." Our 200-family membership dedicates their personal resources, expertise, and energies to the preservation of Hyattsville's homes and neighborhoods. Dues are $20.00 per calendar year per family or individual. To join, please print, fill out and send the membership application.

MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

Contractor Discounts: A variety of local businesses whose products and services are useful for the restoration and preservation of older properties offer discounts to HPA members with their membership cards. Camaraderie and Communication: Our monthly HPA newsletter keeps you informed about upcoming events, meetings, and member activities. The Preservation Quarterly provides a more scholarly look at various issues related to Hyattsville, its history, the built environment, and historic preservation.
Advice and Counsel: The Board, Officers, and diverse membership take pride in communicating their experiences in historic house ownership. Answers to questions ranging from contractor experiences to sensitive restoration issues, to historical research are available for our members.

MEMBERSHIP ACTIVITIES

Meetings: Regular meetings are held with special-guest presentations about rehabilitation tax credits, restoration techniques, and local history.
Annual Historic House Tours: HPA celebrated its 25th annual tour in 2004. Each May selected homes, gardens, businesses, and civic organizations throughout Hyattsville welcome several hundred visitors to view our latest restoration and preservation efforts. A picnic follows to thank homeowners and dedicated volunteers for their generosity.
Summer Splash Picnic: Each September, to kick off HPA's activities a family-oriented, energetic, we hold an HPA family reunion and potluck. It's a great opportunity to meet new friends and relax with old acquaintances. Gardeners: HPA gardening enthusiasts search the neighborhood for splendid landscapes to feature on the annual house tour. These experts provide elaborate floral arrangements to decorate each property on house tour day.
Artists: HPA members active in the local arts community identify artists to feature on the annual house tour.
